Larnaca

Larnaca has strong links to the past. The Mycenaean Greeks fortified the town with cyclopean walls in the 12th century while the Phoenicians founded a powerful kingdom here in the 9th century.

Kition is the birthplace of the philosopher Zeno, founder of the Stoic School, and it is here that Saint Lazarus came to live after his resurrection.

The delightful Palm Trees Promenade, its fort, and its old quarters give Larnaca its unique character.

The nearby salt lake is a favourite stop-over spot for thousands of migrant flamingoes in winter, whilst on its edge is a popular Muslim pilgrimage place.

Choirokoiti is the oldest Neolithic settlement on the island.

The Pierides Museum is the oldest privately owned museum in Cyprus, set up by Dimitrios Pierides (1811 -1895).

About Cyprus

Cyprus is an island stands at the crossroads of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, giving it a unique cultural mix that you can see in the food, the architecture and the atmosphere.

It is one of the Mediterranean's most beautiful islands, with soft white sandy beaches, mountains that plunge into the sea and lush green fields.

Cyprus maybe a small island but it boasts championship Golf courses, inviting beaches, and breathtaking mountain trails. You can easily access all of these from a central location like the Larnaca area.

The crime rate in Cyprus is very low

it is a fact that compared to other European countries Cyprus is said to be one of the safest.

Children and the elderly can walk the streets alone or at night and the environment is a warm, welcoming one. A crime rate of 6.44 crimes per 1,000 inhabitants shows a low incidence of crime in Cyprus. This is apparently due to the closeness of family ties, a sense of honour and reputation, along with the social pressures of education and achievement.

In Cyprus motorists drive on the left which is fantastic for British tourists - most signs are doubled up in English also - very handy. Greek and Turkish are the main languages spoken by the Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot communities respectively. English is very widely spoken.

The currency is the Euro.

It is really sunny! The climate is beautifully Meditteranean with practically guaranteed sunshine with hot summers and very mild winters. It is in fact the hottest of the Mediterranean islands. Don't forget your sunscreen!#home

Local Time

Cyprus Time is GMT +2.

Electrical appliances

Plugs are the same as the UK and the voltage is the same too so you don't need an adapter if you are coming from the UK. If your appliances are 2 pin from other parts of Europe then don't worry, we have adaptors in the apartment for you to use.

Making Phone Calls

In order to make a phone call to Cyprus from abroad, dial 00 357 and then the eight-digit phone number. If you wish to make a phone call to the UK while in Cyprus , dial 00, followed by 44 and the telephone number without the first 0.

There is an internet cafe in Pervolia so you can keep in touch online too.
