Pervolia

5th May - Saint Irini Festival held at the St. Irini church in the village centre.

18th June - Saint Leontis Festival held at the St. Leontis small burial church in the village.

Both festivals are celebrated with traditional singing and dancing, and market stalls selling local produce.

Larnaca

Larnaca has strong links to the past. The Mycenaean Greeks fortified the town with cyclopean walls in the 12th century while the Phoenicians founded a powerful kingdom here in the 9th century.

Kition is the birthplace of the philosopher Zeno, founder of the Stoic School, and it is here that Saint Lazarus came to live after his resurrection.

The delightful Palm Trees Promenade, its fort, and its old quarters give Larnaca its unique character.

The nearby salt lake is a favourite stop-over spot for thousands of migrant flamingoes in winter, whilst on its edge is a popular Muslim pilgrimage place.

Choirokoiti is the oldest Neolithic settlement on the island.

The Pierides Museum is the oldest privately owned museum in Cyprus, set up by Dimitrios Pierides (1811 -1895).

Cyprus - At a Glance

The island of Cyprus stands at the crossroads of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East,  providing its unique  cultural mix as seen in the food, architecture and atmosphere.  It is one of the Mediterranean’s most beautiful islands, with soft white, sandy beaches, mountains that plunge dramatically into the azure sea and lush green fields.

Cyprus may be a small island but it boasts championship golf courses, inviting beaches suitable for water sports and breathtaking mountain trails.  All this can easily be accessed from the central location of the Larnaca region, making our apartment and ideal choice for those who want to enjoy the tranquility of a beach and village location with the option of exploring the rest of the island.

Transport

Although Larnaca is served by frequent buses, hiring a car to explore is a great way to see the island.  Driving couldn’t be easier for British visitors as motorists drive on the left and signs are written in both English and Greek / Turkish Cypriot.

Language

The Official languages in Cyprus are Greek and Turkish.  Approximately 85% of Cypriots speak Greek.  English is widely understood in Cyprus, although the locals love to hear you attempting a few words in their language!

Currency

The Euro is the official currency in Cyprus.  ATM machines are plentiful and credit cards are widely accepted.  Travelers’ cheques can also be used.

Climate

Cyprus enjoys the best of the Mediterranean weather - with sunshine guaranteed almost the whole year round.  It is in fact one of the hottest islands in the Med, so don’t forget your sunscreen!  The winters are pleasantly mild, making Cyprus the perfect choice for some winter sun.

Electrical Appliances

You do not need to bring adaptors for your appliances - we provide these in the apartment to convert 2-pin European plugs.  Cyprus uses a 3-pin plug / socket system, meaning your UK hairdryers and i-pod charges do not require adaptors.  Voltage is the same as UK at 240V

Making Phone Calls

In order to make a phone call to Cyprus from abroad, dial 00 357 and then the eight-digit phone number. If you wish to make a phone call to the UK while in Cyprus , dial 00, followed by 44 and the telephone number without the first 0.
